Blue Angel

The “new“ Blue Angel according to RAL-UZ 195, effective from August 2016 to December 2018

DThe Blue Angel is an eco-label the German federal government awards for especially environmentally friendly products and services since 1978. The label guarantees that our print products fulfill the highest requirements to environmental and health concerns. By optimizing the print process, energy use, paper waste and air and water emissions can be reduced. Thus, print products that bear the Bue Angel label are a more environmentally friendly alternative to the conventional printed products available on the market. We were already certified with the Blue Angel in the years before. In August 2016, RAL gGmbH awarded us the Blue Angel again.

Energy Management System

The final certification audit for our energy management system took place from June 20th to 22nd, 2012. We passed the certification with much praise from the main auditor of “Germanische Lloyd”. Recently we were awarded the Certificate on Energy Management according to ISO 50001. Energy management includes planning and operating energy-related generation and consumer units. This aims at the conservation of resources as well as climate protection and cost reduction while simultaneously securing the user’s energy demand. The subsection Energy Controlling supports the cost- and material-efficient energy and material flow management. The Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz (EEG; German Renewable Energy Sources Act) with the 2012 amendment and the corresponding leaflets of Bundesamt für Wirtschaft und Ausfuhrkontrolle (BAFA; Federal Office for Economics and Export) allows special compensation schemes for energy-intensive companies. According to the law producing companies with a power consumption of more than 1 gigawatt-hour and electricity costs of at least 14 % of the gross value added can be excluded from renewable energy charges upon request. The precondition for this starting at a current consumption of more than 10 gigawatt-hours is the certification according to DIN EN ISO 50001. The Energy Management Standard EN ISO 50001 describes the requirements a company’s management system has to follow to fulfill the demands of this set of rules when implementing the energy management. It can be both informative for the purpose of implementing it within the company and a proof for third parties showing that the requirements of this standard are met. The evidence is proved in a certification process. Subsequently, the independent certification partner “Germanischer Lloyd SE” issues a temporary certificate.

FSC® – Forest Stewardship Council®

We implemented the certification according to the FSC®-CoC Standard in our internal processes. By using FSC® certified paper, we support an improved management of forests worldwide. The wood for FSC® certified papers stems from responsible forestry. It is regularly reviewed and has to be performed in an environmentally compatible, socially acceptable and economically feasible way.

PEFC™ Certification

PEFC™ is the biggest institution for securing sustainable forest management by applying an independent certification system. Wood and wood products bearing the PEFCTM seal verifiably come from forestry that is socially, ecologically and economically sustainable. PEFC™ Deutschland e.V. was founded in 1999 and has developed standards and processes for certifications, provides information to the public and assigns rights to the PEFC™ logo within Germany. PEFC™ is the most important forest certification system within Germany: 7.3 million hectares of forest area are already PEFCTM certified, which is about two thirds of the German forests.

Carbon neutral printing

In accordance with the procedure of “firstclimate certification process” for carbon neutral printing Sattler Media Press GmbH is able to identify and calculate all CO2 emissions that are generated during the printing process and offer compensation through various climate protection projects. Our customers can then label their printed matter with the logo “carbon neutral print production”. With the firstclimate procedure for carbon neutral printing matter all CO2 emissions generated directly or indirectly within the process of printing can be offset in the overall balance through the purchase of certificates of climate protection. Within this calculation all CO2 emissions are being considered – from paper production and transport to print finishing and logistics.

bvdm - Climate-Neutral Printing

Sattler Direct Mail is a member of the bvdm climate initiative to make use of the possibility to be active in climate protection. This initiative enables us to make the production-related climate-damaging emissions transparent to our customers and end customers and, if desired, compensate them. The climate initiative consists of three steps: Determine CO2 , avoid CO2, compensate CO2. The debate on future climate changes has reached every social class. Apart from soaring energy costs, the environmentally and resource-friendly production for economy and industry has become more and more important. With regard to its energy consumption, the printing industry with its small- and medium-sized structure rather belongs to the low-energy production areas. Nevertheless this is a topic that concerns us, too, because climate protection and climate efficiency have long become a trans-societal challenge. The climate initiative offers its members of the associations the opportunity to be voluntarily active for environmental protection and offer genuine added value to their customers. Thus, the print and media industry and its companies have been brought to public attention as a responsible and environmentally conscious industry and the enterprises have the opportunity to make their production-related climate-damaging emissions transparent to their clients and compensate them. Many companies already made environmental and climate protection an important part of their corporate objectives. They need reliable information on the CO2 emissions of their print orders to include them in their climate balance. With this climate initiative, the associations want to support their members as partners in a fair way in implementing climate protection measures. All the balance parameters of the CO2 calculator were carefully developed and agreed upon in close contact with science and policy. To us it is especially important to point out the limits of the CO2 calculation and of the interpretation of climate balances. Advantage of the climate protection model: Each activity that aims at avoiding climate-damaging emissions not only offers the concrete goal of climate protection, but also the opportunity to position itself as a reliable company for customers and the public.

Isopropyl alcohol

To keep the alcohol load as low as possible during the printing process, we print with the lowest alcohol concentration possible at all times. We guarantee this by using modern Unisensor measurement instruments that precisely control the alcohol dose.

Noise

Generally, our machines are operated with a central air supply installed in a separate room. Thus, the noise exposure in the production area is drastically reduced. Wherever this is impossible, the compressors required for supplying air are enclosed or installed in special air supply cabinets.

Detergents

We exclusively use detergents of group A, Danger Class AIII. This means both that the environment is protected by the water-insoluble composition, and the individual employee is protected due to the high flash point.

Disposal

Normally, we pay attention to the later disposal of the delivery units even when purchasing the consumables. Wherever possible, we use large, recyclable containers. Already presorted by strict separation, all substances consumed and all empty units are supplied to the recycling cycle via a certified disposal company.
